Building Bridges
‘Building Bridges - Combating Antisemitism Together’ is an initiative uniting Jewish communities, government representatives, professional networks, and experts to monitor, reinforce, and implement the EU strategy against antisemitism. The project's consortium partners are the World Jewish Congress, CEJI and What Matters. What Matters contributed to the aims by three activities: an online survey, an analysis report and a networking event.
About the survey and the analysis report
The aim of both survey and analysis report was to understand not only how football stakeholders perceive initiatives that fight antisemitism and foster Jewish life in sport, but also how Jewish organizations view football antisemitism and counter-initiatives. About the networking event "Building Bridges - Together Through Sport", December 9-11, 2024 in Bratislava
The networking event was aimed at both professionals and volunteers, including athletes and activists, who are involved with sports and anti-discrimination efforts. Alongside workshops, there was ample opportunity for networking and for learning from the experiences of other international participants. We were offering a place to exchange ideas on how to tackle antisemitism and discrimination in sports.
The „Building Bridges” event in Bratislava was a key component of the Together through Sport initiative, which we launched in 2023 alongside the World Jewish Congress at a United Nations Human Rights Council side event in Geneva. Together through Sport aims to promote activities centered on sports, combating antisemitism, and Holocaust remembrance.
In recent years, this initiative has given rise to numerous activities, including regular training sessions and public events organized by the German Football League, as well as workshops in collaboration with sports sector stakeholders in the Netherlands, Austria, and beyond.
A more detailed report can be found on the website of the World Jewish Congress.
